A Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) is a document issued by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will allow you to enter Canada for a limited time. However, the duration depends upon the reason for your travel. It could be as less as a day or two and as much as 3 years, which stands as the maximum TRP validity. The decision regarding the duration is decided by either the border agent or the Canadian Immigration Officer. When it comes to the fee, the application processing fee for a TRP is roughly $200 CAD when applying at a Canadian Immigration office or any Port of Entry.
What are the two types of Temporary Resident Permits (TRPs) that are issued?
- Single entry TRP – This TRP permits you to enter Canada just once and it shall expire once you exit the country. A single entry TRP is usually granted when you have a specific event to attend like a wedding or wish to visit your ailing family member.
- Multiple entry TRP – This TRP variant permits multiple entries and exits from Canada within its validity period. It is issued for a specific duration and expires afterwards. Following its expiration, you can reapply for a new TRP.
